OUT OF TOWN

As if the night were something

Divided by the act of going home

As if the pavement were a natural skin

Greeting the eyes and  feet

In each shop window

I see my reflection walking

Slanted sideways

Estranged

Like an odd parody of a troubled man

Seeking shelter from a storm

When all the world is out of town

And your eyes see only separate ground

Things outside yourself take on a twisted view

As you wander lost through the world you’ve found

Cleaved from the All  you’re connected to
